come and see for yourself

you don't see the apple

according to the theory of predictive processing, our perception doesn't really work like we would like it to..

instead of it working like: "there is an apple, and we use our eyes to see it",

it's more like: "our eyes see something that resembles an apple and our brain predicts it should reasonably be an apple, and then we see an apple"

and if it does not end up being an apple we don't really have a nice experience

now for some reason currently unknown to myself, depending on our state of mind those predictions change

so when you are anxious as fuck - that little tingle on your arm isn't just something to scratch - rather it is a giant venomous spider

and in bigger or lesser degree that happens all through our experience

now as all good stories go - somewhere in a distant land long time ago some special human being has realized that there are states of mind more useful than others and set out on the journey to attain them - (although it was probably just the human collective on the whole evolving, but that's way less glamorous)

that special person, of course after first going through the heroes journey (duhhh), realized you can do certain things to enter those more useful states of mind - and called it meditation

taaa daaa - now you can go and read the layman's intro to meditation - so you can go around the chair

cheers (:
